Pruning Hydrangeas and Knockout Roses

Endless Summer Hydrangeas and Knockout Roses are two popular plants that benefit from this practice. Now is the perfect time to prune them to help them prepare for the upcoming season. Be sure your hydrangeas are the Endless Summer variety, because they are one of the few varieties that will bloom most of the summer, in pink or blue.
A pair of clean bypass pruners (those that cut like scissors) will be best for the job. You can make sure that your pruners are clean by using a household cleaner such as Lysol. This will help to reduce the spread of disease. Cut your hydrangea or rose back to about one foot from the ground by making an angled cut away from the bud. Pruning the center slightly taller will help achieve a nice shape. If any branches are crossing, they should also be removed.
